Abstract:

General Background: Population ageing has intensified the demand for accessible community-based elderly health services in Indonesia. Specific Background: Posyandu Lansia serves as a village-level health platform, yet participation in Durungbanjar Village remains low despite routine implementation. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies explain how Posyandu roles operate amid persistent attendance barriers at the local level. Aims: This study examines how Posyandu Lansia functions as a motivator, facilitator, and mobilisator in addressing elderly health needs and participation. Results: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, findings show that Posyandu provides motivation through information dissemination, psychological support, supplementary feeding, and home visits; facilitates access through village-funded health resources and basic services; and mobilises cadres, health workers, and community networks. However, attendance rates remained modest (12–22.7%) due to transport constraints, limited family support, information gaps, and physical limitations of older adults. Novelty: The study highlights the mismatch between structured institutional roles and real participation outcomes in a rural setting. Implications: Strengthening outreach strategies, family involvement, and service accessibility is essential to align Posyandu roles with sustainable elderly participation and community health goals.

Highlights:

  • Posyandu performs motivational, facilitative, and mobilising roles simultaneously.

  • Elderly attendance remains low despite available village health resources.

  • Participation barriers are driven by access, information, and family support issues.
